Will Durango Developers Incur Higher “Fair Share” Fees?
The Durango City Council recently supported a measure to increase the amount developers will pay in “fair share” fees to help encourage affordable housing in the area. The “fair share” ordinance was enacted in 2008 as an attempt to tackle the cost of housing in Durango and La Plata County. Developers of large projects are currently required to pay $9200 per unit in lieu of building affordable housing. If the measure passes, developers will see an increase in fees.
